flickr's new flickr-er features
Have been pleased to see Flickr's new features and more intuitive user interface this week. Here are some screenshots of some of the new interface which help you navigate galleries and interact with the images in a simpler and clearer way.
The main image being viewed is now wider in size (640 pixel wide) and there is less visual clutter around the image itself. The 'Actions' button, located on the top left of the image, allows you to add and make any changes to the image itself (adding a tag, person, note, etc), while the 'Share this' button allows you to do just that in a number of ways.
Both time and location have been given more prominence in the new layout, and this information is displayed in the top right sidebar, where contextual information is available in the form of a description of the time and camera used to take the photo, and where the photo was taken with the inclusion of a visual map. The answers to the questions: When? How? and Where? are revealed here.
You can now navigate through the gallery with the left and right arrow keys by either using your mouse or by using your keyboard keys whilst remaining on the same page which is handy. The left and right keys take you to the 'Newer' or 'Older' photos within the gallery - as users tend to be more interested in seeing the most recent additions to flickr or any particular user's account or gallery. The number of views for every photo, with access to your statistics is available in the right sidebar under the user's profile and the contextual information (for pro users). All in all a much simpler and more user friendly interface.
